Sauti za Busara music festival has built an enviable reputation, regionally and internationally, for its quality of music, diverse programming, friendliness, warmth and peaceful atmosphere.
Festival 2009
The sixth edition of Sauti za Busara takes place during 12 - 17 February 2009 in Zanzibar. Centred for four days in the “Mambo Club” at the historic Old Fort in Stone Town, the festival then moves on for two days of community shows, including “Busara Xtra” fringe events around Zanzibar town, suburbs and rural locations. As always, Sauti za Busara commences with a blazing carnival procession through the streets of Stone Town, featuring beni brass band, drummers, clowns, stilt-walkers and acrobats.
Rich and vibrant mix
A rich and vibrant mix of styles from the Swahili-speaking world is showcased every year, including thirty groups representing traditional ngoma, taarab, kidumbak, muziki wa dansi, hiphop / “bongo flava”, mystic and religious music, poetry, comedy and dance.
Non-stop music 4pm to 1am daily
In all, more than four hundred musicians and artists participate in the main festival, with a continuous daily programme of music from 4pm to 1am. Admission for all is free until sunset.
