The largest street event of its kind in Zanzibar!

Thursday 9 February 2012, 4pm

This is a unique experience for performing artists, international visitors and the people of Zanzibar to be united in the celebration of music from the region.
Set to be the largest street parade yet, the parade will feature over twenty performing arts groups from the Zanzibar, including brass bands, sound systems, drummers, clowns, mwanandege umbrella women, dancers, stilt-walkers, capoeira, fire eaters, acrobats and many other surprises.
In addition, early engagement is being sought with schools, NGOs and government institutions to ensure a cross-section of Zanzibar’s varied cultural life represents in unity and in celebration.

Route

The 2km parade route begins in the heart of Zanzibar Town at the Kisonge Grounds. Passing by Malindi Grounds and the port reaching its final destination, the Old Fort, where the main stage of the festival is set and ready for four days of top music performances:
4:00 pm – Kisonge Grounds
4:30 pm – Departs
5:00 pm – Malindi Grounds pit-stop
5:30 pm – Departs
6:00 pm – Arrives Old Fort

Participation is free and everyone is welcome to join in from the start, or along the way. It’s a unique experience - a great way for the festival to be experienced in other parts of town.
