Warm greetings from The Old Fort, Zanzibar!
Sauti za Busara festival 2023 was held at the Ngome Kongwe aka Old Fort from Friday 10 to Sunday, February 13, 2023.
This was the 20th edition of the festival that has come from very humble beginnings to become one of Africa’s most celebrated.
Even with complications in the funding with our future at most of the entire 2022 uncertain we once again managed to pull through to stage a festival that featured artistes from almost every corner of our vast continent.
Thanks to the new core funding by Fumba Town by CPS we were able to pull up a successful festival and were are certain that the 2024 edition will without doubt take place.
The festival has continued to be a unique venue where Tanzanians, Africans and the rest of the world come to taste and share the diversity with over 4000 in attendance on a daily basis under the banner ‘Our diversity, Our Wealth’.
The musicians and groups came from Zanzibar and Tanzania came from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Re Union, Mayote, DRC, Senegal, Sudan, and Ivory Coast among others.
With a unique line up Sauri za Busara has proved that audiences yearn for more diverse musical expressions from across the African continent.
We showed it is possible to host a uniquely African music experience that brings social and economic benefits for the island, whilst our rich cultural heritage does not have to be compromised for this to successfully take place.
Apart from the main show the return of Swahili Encounters was a refreshing addition after the musicians worked together to produce a breathtaking performance after one week working together to develop, rehearse new compositions
