Makadem, aka the Ohangla Man is one of Kenya’s most talented performing artists. He has successfully fused different genres of music from Kenya, Africa and the world with his native Luo benga music.

Makadem’s humorous and witty lyrics address deep socio-economic struggles in modern day Kenya. His command on stage, charisma, powerful and satirical vocal delivery has led many to even describe him as “Kenya’s Fela Kuti”.

Makadem’s first single ‘Mr. Lololova’, with a reggae dancehall vibe was released in 1999. Years later he started collaborating with veteran afro fusion producer, Tabu Osusa. His debut album ‘Ohanglaman’ (Ketebul Music, 2007) was recorded under Osusa’s keen guidance. This collaboration saw a successful transformation to a more locally African rooted music style that Makadem refers to as ‘Anglo-Ohangla’.

He has toured in Morocco, Mexico, and Europe and performed in regional festivals including Sauti za Busara (Zanzibar), Bayimba (Uganda) and Fest’Horn (Djibouti). He has shared the stage with top international artists including Gregory Isaacs, Culture, Glen Washington, Baaba Maal, Mahotella Queens and Lokua Kanza to mention but a few.

Makadem’s most recent album Kokorio was released in 2015. Simply put, Makadem is one of a kind. Pure energy! He speaks the universal language of good music, with a personality that transmits fire to small and large crowds alike.
