Soma kwa Kiswahili

Shaped by the vibrant pulse of hip-hop culture since the early 1990s, Ahamada Smis has crafted a unique artistic identity — one that bridges the urban rhythms of slam with the rich heritage of his Comorian and African roots.

Originally emerging as a slam poet, Ahamada stepped fully into song with his acclaimed album Air, blending the poetic with the melodic. His music is a tapestry of Indian Ocean rhythms, evocative melodies, and meticulously crafted verses — delivering messages that are both soothing and unflinchingly honest.

In 2022, he created the groundbreaking multimedia performance Sabena, co-produced by Mucem and the Festival de Marseille. Fusing traditional and contemporary sounds, video art, and contemporary dance, Sabena recounts a powerful chapter of Comorian history — honoring the survivors of the tragic “Sabena” events through poetic, sensitive slam and immersive storytelling.

With each project, Ahamada Smis continues to expand the possibilities of musical and poetic expression, creating works that connect past and present, memory and movement, identity and innovation.
