Lindigo
For over two decades, LiNDiGo — led by the charismatic Olivier Araste — has stood as the most iconic and beloved maloya group from Réunion Island. But their music is far from a nostalgic revival. Instead, it is a living, breathing force: rooted in tradition, yet constantly evolving — a sound they call "Maloya Power." It’s an approach that draws strength from heritage to build the future, uniting generations and cultures across borders.
Since their formation, LiNDiGo has performed over 1,500 concerts worldwide, released seven albums, and produced numerous hits both in Réunion and internationally — including standout tracks like “Domoun” and “Ahinama.” Their electrifying performances — pulsing with ritual trance, call-and-response chants, and infectious rhythms — transcend language and culture, igniting dancefloors from Mozambique to Japan.
In 2019, the band celebrated their 20th anniversary, marked by the production of a mini-documentary series titled Les Routes de Lindigo (Canal+), produced by Hélico, which chronicled their musical adventures and cultural exchanges in Brazil, Cuba, Japan, South Africa, Mozambique, and the UK. This series followed the earlier documentary Ahinama, which captured their inspiring journey to Cuba — a deep dive into the Afro-diasporic connections that shape their sound.
At the heart of LiNDiGo’s creative force is Olivyé Araste, whose collaborative spirit has led to musical friendships with renowned artists such as Fixi, Yarol Poupaud, Pongo, Jori and Gino from Skip&Die, René Lacaille, and Cyril Atef. These collaborations further expand the band’s sonic universe, reinforcing their role as cultural ambassadors of maloya.
On stage, the eight-piece ensemble blends acoustic maloya with the energy of Afrobeat, the soul of Afro-Cuban rhythms, and the depth of Mandinka influences — crafting a powerful musical dialogue between past and future, island and continent, memory and movement.
