Carnival Parade
A vibrant event that adds an extra layer of excitement to Zanzibar’s cultural fabric. Each year, colorful floats, traditional costumes, and lively music fill the streets of Stone Town creating spectacles that captivate locals and visitors alike. The carnival showcases the diversity of cultures and traditions uniting participants in a joyous display of creativity and community spirit. Serving as the official opening act of the festival, the Carnival parade is not just a highlight of Sauti za Busara but also a testament to the Island’s rich heritage and its welcoming atmosphere for all who come to experience the magic.
The route passed through the narrow streets of Stone Town, where it connected intimately with locals, adding originality, excitement, and abundant photo opportunities. Heralded as one of Zanzibar’s most successful street events, the parade stood out for its flawless organization, diverse participants, cohesive atmosphere, and impeccable timing. A broad cross-section of Zanzibar’s vibrant cultural life participated, showcasing 219 artists, including girls’ acrobats, school groups, beni brass bands, ngoma drummers and dancers, stilt-walkers, sound systems, comedians, break-dancers, zumari players, kilua and mdundiko dancers, ‘mwanandege’ umbrella girls, and numerous youth and community groups.
