Some of the members used to work with Lumumba Theatre and other groups based in Dar es Salaam. They decided to establish their own group to focus on performing a variety of traditional and contemporary music styles.
They started off performing mostly cover versions, but now they write their own songs that are touching souls and inspiring women to find their voices and pursue their dreams.
‘Subira’ calls for patience and trust in pursuing goals, and not be disheartened when success is not immediate. ‘Uze’ is sung in the character of a woman who is introducing her lover to her family for the first time, whilst ‘Dunia’ berates the loss of national identity that comes from people overvaluing influences from abroad.
Bahati Female Band’s popularity is beginning to increase due to their lively shows, which took place over the past year at Nafasi Art Space, Malkia wa Nguvu, Pamoja Music Festival and Marafiki Music Festival.
