In 2009, he was the runner-up in the SAMRO Overseas Scholarship Competition, which led to a transformative three-week study in New York under the esteemed Jason Moran.
Dyer’s career highlights include performing at the opening of the London Jazz Festival in 2015, headlining the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, and showcasing his trio at Jazz ahead in Bremen, Germany, in 2016.
He has also graced notable festivals such as the Safaricom Jazz Festival in Nairobi, Kenya, and the Musiques en été festival in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2017, as well as Festival Metis in Paris in 2019.
He has released three acclaimed jazz albums: Mirrors (2010), Emancipate the Story (2011), and World Music (2015), the latter of which was nominated for Best Jazz Album at the 2016 South African Music Awards.
Currently, Bokani is collaborating with his father, legendary musician Steve Dyer, under the Dyertribe label. He is also working on his fourth album while co-directing an exciting project with artists from various Southern African countries.
