Originating from Pemba Island, Brain Boy’s sound is inspired by traditional Taarab musicians like Makame Faki and Mohammed Isa Matona. In hearing his natural deep voice, he has been nick-named ‘Makame Faki Jr’ - the King of Kidumbaki.

Brain Boy creates a fusion of traditional Taarab and Kidumbaki with a new wave of Zanzibarian sound known as Zenji Flavor. In his music, he covers topics such as love, relationships as well as social development. In 2022, he released his first EP titled ‘The Return of Zenji Flavor’ and was nominated in the Emerson Music Awards, as well as won Best Artist of the Year in the Zanzibar Youth Awards 2022.
